Agnes & Vera sells jewellery made of sterling silver. Under the Hallmarking Act 1973, any business dealing in precious metals must display a notice, produced by the British Hallmarking Council, explaining the approved UK hallmarks. This is that notice, in the official online format.

The notice describes the marks applied by the UK Assay Offices, which certify the precious metal content of an item. A hallmark is your guarantee that an item described as gold, silver, platinum or palladium is what it claims to be.
Items below a certain weight are exempt from compulsory hallmarking: 7.78 grams for silver, 1 gram for gold, 1 gram for palladium and 0.5 grams for platinum. Some of the jewellery we sell falls below these weights.
For more information visit the British Hallmarking Council. If you have a concern regarding hallmarking, contact your local Trading Standards authority.
